martinis! Proper attire required. |
Hours:
Tuesday-Friday: 9pm-4am, Saturday:

Rock & Pop
Atmosphere:
Where the music rocks loud, the bull
throws hard, the bar gets danced on, and
everyone gets wet. It's a silly,
don't-take-yourself-too-seriously kind
of fun at this bar. The jukebox blasts
'80s flashbacks. |

This place might as well be called
"House of Sports," since its one of the
best sports bars in the city. A huge
screen TV gives almost-there access to
games, and there's a mini hoops court to
placate the "coulda been a contender"
inside you. The again, one of the 100
beers offered might do the trick as
well. |
Hours:
Tuesday-Friday: 10pm-4am, Saturday:
10pm-5am.
Music:
Pop, house, electronic, hip-hop, rap.
Atmosphere:
Red is the new black here at Ruby. A
super sexy red vinyl bar greets you as
you walk through the crowd dancing to
the beat along with the go-go dancers in
the middle of the room. Feeling frisky?
Take a twirl on mirrored column flanked
by stripper polls.Club attire required. |
Hours:
Wednesday-Friday: 9pm-4am, Saturday:
9pm-5am
Music:
Hip Hop, Rock, Rock
Atmosphere: Through an alley
lined with palm fronds, down a dark
staircase, the club-restaurant offers a
sumptuous, gilded Gold Coast hideaway.
Thick pillars throughout are painted
with 21-karat gold, as is the
artist-designed wallpaper. The dance
floor is nice enough--a roomy,
wood-paneled enclave--but the real
attraction is the Yow Bar, named after
Yow Low, the famous bartender from
Trader Vic's. Business Dressy. |
Hours:
Friday: 9pm-2am, Saturday: 9pm-3am.
Music:
Dance and Disco.
Atmosphere:
Randolph Street's Restaurant Row got a
bit more tres chic with the
addition of Bon V--a take on the French
phrase for "good life." The ultra
lounge, kitted out with chic chandeliers
and other objects that represent the
good life in various cultures, covers
two floors of a 7,500-square-foot space.
Dress to impress. |

Music:
Fridays: House, mainstream and hip hop.

Atmosphere:
This ultra-hip, upscale club is one of
the newest and hottest spots in Chicago.

enforced: no shorts, ball caps, sweats,
boots, rips in jeans, MUST be dressed
appropriately. |
Hours:
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Thursday
through Sunday
Music:
Rock
Atmosphere:
There's a subterranean feel
to this dark, lower-level
hangout, which pulses with
multi-generational,
iPod-culled rock. Images of
music icons and notable
lyrics are splashed on
walls. Furthering the theme,
emptied-out amps display
liquor bottles, while drums
serve as tables. Hardcore
shots like Jaeger and
Jack--poured into iced
glasses--are tipped back
from snakeskin barstools and
black leather sofas.
Otherwise, beer is the
beverage of choice. As for
the attire, it's graphic
tees for guys; low-cut tops
for girls; and designer
denim for all

upscale club. Purple light bathes the
bars and spacious dance floors on both
levels while big windows offer a view of
the Rush Street show. Specialty martinis

foot row of imported rustic tables,
traditional German music & sing-a-longs,
the infamous 2 liter beer Boot, Munich
has never seemed closer. This place is
loaded with men! Perfect for the
bachelorettes who want to drink with the
boys or just look at them! |
Hours:
Wed-Fri 5pm-2am, Sat 12pm-3am
Music:
DJ & Live Music
Atmosphere:
The unlikely basement corner spot
doesn't in the least inhibit the effort
to replicate a Cancun beach bar. The
floor is astroturf, plywood or sand, &
interior surfaces are covered in tiki-type
wood, thatch or loud swaths of turquoise
paint. Neon is big, too. Unsurprisingly,
the young, beer-swilling crowd is rowdy,
pounding cervezas & mammoth tropical
concoctions to well-worn rock, pop &
rap. The occasional cover band or reggae
set mixes things up, but the focus is
more beach bash than live music venue. |
Hours:
Monday - Friday: 4pm to 2am, Saturday:
1pm to 3am, Sunday: 1pm to 1am
Music: Practically everything
from Latin, Lounge, Pop, Rock, Top 40,
R&B, Hip-Hop, Acid Jazz and Dance.
Atmosphere: A welcome alternative
to the hot-dogs-and-beer Wrigleyville
scene, Bar Celona adds a spicy flare to
the Clark Street strip of bars. Perfect
for those who just spent $7+ on a beer
at the Cub's game, Bar Celona has
fantastic specials 6 days of the week.
From $1 tacos, $5 martinis, $3 cosmos,
and $2 burger and fries, this spot is
the perfect place to chill and unwind in
a Spanish Riviera state of mind |

This Southport spot boasts
conversation-friendly music, vaguely
Victorian decor, and a hip abbreviated
name. Tight clusters of wooden tables
and chairs give way to a trio of plush,
mega-booths lit by bordello-red lamps.
The small but hard-working bar staff
toils across the way beneath leaf-shaped
ceiling fans and chandeliers.

Atmosphere:
This corner bar has that
everyone-knows-your-name kind of flair,
thanks to its tucked-away location on
a residential street in Lakeview. The
building's been around since the World's
Fair, so the owners completely rehabbed
the place to restore the tin ceilings
and add lots of cozy woodwork. A
laidback crowd of locals keep busy with
Golden Tee and shuffleboard |
|
Hours: 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday -
Friday; 11a.m.-3 a.m. Friday & Saturday;

Rock & Pop
Atmosphere:
The look at this revamped spot (it used
to be Tryst before the owners of Goodbar
and Cortland's Garage reconcepted it as
The Stretch) is sleek and contemporary,
thanks to cedar paneling stretching
behind the bar. Framed photos of guests
singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
keeps the decor somewhat Wrigleyville-reverent.
Specialty drinks served in 16-ounce or
super-sized 32-ounce Mason jars range
from Long Islands and Arnold Palmers. On
nights when the game isn't the main
event, the lights will dim down and a DJ
will turn it up. Like Tryst, the back
room is still a great spot for private
parties. |
Hours:
11 a.m.-2 a.m. Monday through Friday;
11:00 a.m.-3 a.m. Friday & Saturday 11
a.m.-2 a.m. Sunday

Alternative Rock & Pop
Atmosphere:
The owners of Lincoln Parks'
long-standing
Salvatore's are behind this
bar, which aims to straddle two popular
concepts: the Irish pub, the
neighborhood sports bar. The owners also
wanted to borrow from the gastropub
school of thought without overthinking
the food too much; the result is pub
classics prepared with care,
from freshly battered chicken fingers
to hand-formed burgers to fish and
chips. To drink, expect 30 beers by the
bottle and 20 on tap. Have a seat along
the bar or the raised banquette in the
main bar area, or head to the upstairs
bar or back-room lounge outfitted with
modular ottomans and low tables. During
warm weather, head out to the sidewalk
patio along Blackhawk Street

Mullen's opened its second location last
December and gave Cubs fans yet another
sports-themed bar for bellying up. Cubs,
Bears and Northwestern sports
memorabilia cover the brick walls in
this hyper-friendly pub that prides
itself on its pub grub menu. Though
anyone is welcome, dart leagues,
foosball contests and bar-sponsored
softball, flag football and soccer teams
make Mullen's home to a sizable group of
regulars. |

This Bar Louie is just south of Wrigley
Field on Clark Street and like the
others, it reflects the neighborhood in
both style and substance. The room is
large with a high, peaked ceiling that
gives it an open-air feel. Tiled mosaics
border the wood-paneled room and a large
mural -- a great view of Wrigley Field
from the bleacher seats -- is the
centerpiece of the winding bar. That's
the style, now the substance: Bar Louie
serves a mean martini and offers nearly
40 different beers on tap and in the
bottle. Watch out for this place after
Cubs games, it's busy as people flock
out of the park and head for the nearest
watering hole. |

Music:
Top 40 & Party Hits
Atmosphere:
Though this bar-restaurant features a
tasty pizza well known for its 40-some
year history in the south suburbs, it's
all about the North Side Cubbies here.
From the name (a nod to the fall color
change of the ivy at Wrigley Field) and
Cubs scoreboard replica, to baseball
game showings on seven 42-inch HD plasma
TVs, three 60-inch HD plasmas and one
90-inch projection screen, it's root,
root, root for the home team. As for
college sports, the primary allegiance
here is to University of Minnesota;
the college's Chicago alumni group
gathers here to watch games. Six
satellites on deck make this sports
fan's nirvana. Guys take note: There are
even TVs in the men's room. |
